This from Zhuangzi: The Essential Writings reminds me of a reference to Lincoln’s sense of humor in a 2008 New Yorker piece: “Those who dismiss [Obama’s] centeredness as self-centeredness or his composure as indifference are as wrong as those who mistook Eisenhower’s stolidity for denseness or Lincoln’s humor for lack of seriousness.”
